Guess it's Time

So here it goes, my first unassigned post. It's not that I'm not good at writing randomly about my life, but I have been writing everything to John. He has (as of now) a 8 page letter going and every thought is going to him. He is my best friend and I feel responsible for not letting anything be missed although things will be and already have been. It's a rather upsetting thought actually. I should get better at this random posting thing once I get the hang of transferring thoughts. I cannot draw to save my life...literally...my stick figures are CROOKED but hey, what can you do. I listen to music, go to class, eat, do homework and sleep as my daily routine because I'm trying to keep ahead of the game so I don't think too long about John. It's working rather well for me at the moment. For one, I've decided to listen to every song in my itunes library and if I don't like it, I'll delete it. I have 50.6 days of music currently (that's 110.83 GB) so I don't run into duplicates (or I delete them). Well as my first post I suppose I shall end by saying that John will be back in 78 days and I could not be more excited (which is really a lie because as it gets closer I'll probably almost blow up from excitement but hey, I do what I can). Ok so have a nice night as I will because I have time to knock out some serious work and then sleep before 12! Oorah, Life, Love and the Pursuit of Happiness <3

The Truth and Nothing but the Truth...or not

     The bellow movie review of "The Social Network" is from the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal from Tupelo, MS. I found this article on EbscoHost from the Everette Library and it made me more excited to continue the movie in class because it is pretty accurate as a story apparently. I am a little nervous though, because I do not like movies where things happen unfairly or bad people get their way and I feel as though I will get very upset at this movie. I hope it shapes up.

Oct. 07--Anyone who watches "The Social Network" should feel a little dirty the next time they go on Facebook.

True, the story of the founding of the premier social networking site has been dramatized for your enjoyment, so you can't take it as the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

On the other side, cut-throat business tactics haven't been this fun since the original "Wall Street."

Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) is a computer genius at Harvard, where geniuses are commonplace. After he gets dumped by his girlfriend, he creates a website that generates enough traffic to shut down Harvard's network.

The prank earns him six months of academic probation and brings him to the attention of Cameron Winklevoss (Armie Hammer) and Tyler Winklevoss (Josh Pence). The twins have an idea for a social networking site, and they enlist Mark's computer skills.

But Mark spends all of his time working on a rival site, known as The Facebook in its early days. With help from his friend, Eduardo (Andrew Garfield), Mark's site takes over Harvard on the way to taking over the world.

As Facebook's popularity grows, Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake), the founder of Napster.com, connects with Mark. Sean and Mark's relationship begins to cause problems for Eduardo, who provided all of the start-up money for Facebook.

The story keeps flashing back and forth from depositions for a pair of lawsuits: One filed by the Winklevoss twins and another filed by Eduardo. It's an ingenious storytelling device that never gets old.

Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin makes the dialogue sing, and the movie is based on the book, "The Accidental Billionaires," by Ben Mezrich.

Again, truth might be a slippery thing in "The Social Network," but it makes for a dramatic and entertaining time at the theater.

I give "The Social Network" an A.

Are YOU Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

The show, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader has always proven one thing to me: what you learn in 5th grade is only good for the test because even after you forget it, you will def. still succeed in life. Just like this cartoon, posted by Jeffrey Hill on The English Blog, an obvious business man (by his suit) is sitting in on an elementary school class as baffled as those celebrities on the TV show. His face shows confusion as the children around him are all coping the teacher and being very productive as I'm sure he did as a child too. It shows also, that what is taught in elementary school such as grammar and punctuation has flown out the window because of technology and computers. Spell Check, I'm marrying you. (Don't worry, we'll tell John) The persuasive message of, "Hey look! Just get through grade school and then really do something with your life" is hard to argue if you look around nowadays.  As far as the intended audience, I feel as though it is for those already past grade school as a laugh, "yes, I remember learning things like the Presidents and now I have no idea about them." I hope anyway, that the audience is NOT for grade school children to not pay attention because the information does not matter because although the cartoon is hinting that, if you do not pass the worthless grade, you will not get to be a big business man like the classmate. I like this cartoon because it makes me smile as I picture the man not only sitting in a cramped, little desk, but also using the little sinks and even littler toilets. READY, AIM, FIRE

Blogging Virginity

So this is officially my first blog of my entire life. I am def. not confident in this yet, so once I am this will be a laugh to be had by all. I suppose I just write about whatever is happening in my life and then people read it and are actually interested? Is this like a People Magazine? Should magazine have been capitalized? I guess my "followers" can answer that. Well in my life right now, my boyfriend just left for Marine boot camp. SAD day indeed. If there was a mood option like on myspace, it'd have been exhausted. He was supposed to swear in at 10am and then get on the bus to leave me for 87 days at noon. I arrived after my first class at 10am as I was instructed and I saw him swear in. We then had my beautiful roommate and best friend take this AMAZING picture of us. Wait, I'm not sure you can see that, but it's an adorable picture either way...ok I found out how to post the picture in class today, Thanks friend! I then waited with tears in my eyes until he was FALSE alarmed at 1:30 and told he would not leave until 3:00pm. Well great, there went Piano II. 3:00 and he's still not gone. 4:30 he gets called and emotions swell up again. Really, it was enough of a weekend with no sleep and emotional roller coasters of death! I did not appreciate that USMC. I miss English, which really was upsetting because it's my favorite non-music class (which says a lot coming from the music major) and now I am behind and lost and kind of freaking out. Well, by the time I post this I have 85 days until he graduates and I'm ready.
